Historically, recruitment for the post of Station Master by the Railway Board was conducted under NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) along with other graduate and undergraduate level posts. However, starting from this new 2026 recruitment cycle, the Railways has introduced a major administrative reform. Now, a completely separate and dedicated notification (Separate CEN) will be issued for the Station Master post.
Following this change, candidates will not have to compete alongside other general administrative posts. The Railway Board believes that this step will not only accelerate the recruitment process but also help candidates focus on the specific exam pattern of the Station Master post.

According to the report by Dainik Bhaskar, a total of 21 Railway Recruitment Boards are operational across the country. Among all these boards, RRB Ajmer has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting this nationwide Station Master recruitment exam for the first time.
Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman of Railway Recruitment Board Ajmer, stated that the official advertisement for the recruitment is highly likely to be released this month, and the number of posts could exceed 1200.
Track Record of Ajmer Board: Conducting this exam will be a massive responsibility for the Ajmer Board. Previously, the Ajmer Board has successfully and fairly conducted recruitment exams for Group-B posts for railway employees nationwide.
The Railway Board has recently made some highly significant amendments to the eligibility criteria for the Station Master post. If you are planning to apply for this recruitment, you must meet the following qualifications:
The applicant must hold a Graduation Degree from any university or institution recognized by the Government of India. The degree can be in any discipline (Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, etc.).
According to the new rules of the Railway Board, the minimum age limit for the Station Master post has been increased:
Under the new rules implemented from this year, candidates will no longer have to go through the long cycle of CBT 1 and CBT 2. Now, only a single written exam (Single Stage CBT) will be conducted.
Candidates who qualify the written exam (CBT) will be called for the CBAT (Psycho Test). This test is extremely crucial for the post of Station Master, as it evaluates the candidate's quick decision-making ability and mental alertness.
Since the number of vacancies is around 1200 and the estimated number of applicants is over 25 lakhs, the level of competition is going to be extremely tough. To clear this exam, you will need a solid and disciplined strategy.
RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026 is a golden opportunity for all those young aspirants who wish to build a career in a prestigious and responsible position within the Indian Railways. With this separate recruitment process being organized for the first time under the command of the Ajmer Board, the exam is expected to be completed in a highly transparent and time-bound manner. The notification is likely to be released by the end of this month (October 2026), so start your preparation today without wasting any time!
