The Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan (RBSE) has started preparations to completely transform the traditional structure of education in the state's government schools. Under the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020), the RBSE Class 9 and 11 New Syllabus is now being prepared [1]. Following this major change, the compulsion of traditional streams like Arts, Commerce, and Science in Class 11th will end, and students will be able to choose subject groups of their choice [1]. According to this major news from Ajmer, the board has started working rapidly in this direction [1].
This is set to prove to be a revolutionary change for students studying in government schools of Rajasthan. Until now, as soon as students took admission in Class 11th, they had to choose one stream from Arts, Commerce, or Science [1]. But now, with the implementation of NEP-2020, this traditional stream system is going to end [1].
Under the proposed system, on the lines of CBSE, students will be given more options to choose subjects [1]. This means that if a student wants to study History or Business Studies along with Physics, they will be able to do so without any stream restrictions [1]. This will provide students with an excellent opportunity to shape their careers according to their interests.
After receiving the green light from the state government, RBSE has started the work of preparing new textbooks on a war footing [1]. In the first phase, only the books for Classes 9th and 11th are being changed [1].
According to RBSE Chairman Hanuman Singh Rathore, new books are being written on a large scale under this change [1]:
The board will prepare the manuscripts of these books and send them to the state government for review [1]. However, it has not yet been decided from which academic session these new books will be fully implemented, but work on this long process has begun [1].
Extensive reforms are also being made in the education structure at the Class 9th level [1]. Instead of limiting students only to academic subjects, special focus will be placed on their skill development [1].
According to the proposed plan, options for the following subjects may be included in Class 9th [1]:
The scope of subject selection in Class 11th is going to be very broad [1]. Currently, students can only study subjects of their chosen stream, which used to restrict their versatile talent [1]. In the new system, students will have complete freedom to choose subjects of their choice from other groups along with a language group [1].
Apart from this, another important proposal has been included in this new curriculum [1]:
Proposal to include Rajasthani language as an option: Along with the 22 languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, preparations are now underway to offer Rajasthani language as an optional subject [1]. Its main objective is to meet the linguistic and cultural needs of the state and promote local culture [1].
The process of preparing new books is quite complex and multi-layered [1]. RBSE is also conducting an in-depth study of NCERT books for this, so that keeping national standards in mind, the content can be adapted to the local needs and culture of Rajasthan [1]. For this, help is being taken from subject and language experts [1].
The various stages of creating new textbooks can be understood from the table below [1]:
| Stage | Process Details |
|---|---|
| Stage 1: Curriculum Determination | First, the blueprint of the new syllabus (Curriculum) is prepared [1]. |
| Stage 2: Writing Work | Subject Experts write the course content based on the new curriculum [1]. |
| Stage 3: Review & Revision | Language and subject experts review the content and make necessary improvements [1]. |
| Stage 4: Manuscript Creation | After all corrections, the final manuscript is prepared [1]. |
| Stage 5: Government Approval | The board sends this manuscript to the state government, where a state-level committee reviews it [1]. |
| Stage 6: Publication & Implementation | After the final order of the government, the books are published and implemented in schools [1]. |
To ensure transparency and quality in this process, there are plans to involve experts from other states as well [1].
This historic step by RBSE will bring a new dawn to school education in Rajasthan. The main impacts of this change will be as follows:
During such major changes, students need excellent study material and practice to give their studies the right direction. To strengthen your preparation for board exams and competitive exams, you can use Patamde mock tests and study material, where you will find test series and study notes according to the latest syllabus.
This change being made in the curriculum of Classes 9th and 11th by the Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan (RBSE) in line with NEP-2020 is the need of the hour [1]. Abolishing the stream system to offer subject group options and including vocational courses will prove to be a milestone in the holistic development of students [1]. Although it may take some time for the new books to be implemented, this initiative will bring a massive improvement in the standard of government schools in Rajasthan [1].
