How Secure is the NEET Exam System? Central Government Reveals 10 Major Security Aspects in Supreme Court

For millions of students preparing for the NEET exam, the fairness and security of the examination are of utmost importance. Recently, a highly crucial hearing took place in the Supreme Court regarding irregularities and security arrangements in the NEET-UG exam. During this hearing, the Central Government presented its case before the Supreme Court, claiming that the current NEET exam system is completely 'foolproof' and that breaching it or leaking the paper at any level is virtually impossible.

The government presented the entire confidential process, from the preparation of the question paper to its arrival at the exam center, before the court. Let us understand in detail the 10 major security claims made by the government and the important suggestions given by the Supreme Court to improve the examination system.

Supreme Court's Major Observation: 'Avoid Frequent Transfers of Officers'

While hearing petitions seeking reforms in the NEET exam system, the Supreme Court made some serious observations regarding the National Testing Agency (NTA). The court stated that administrative stability is crucial for handling sensitive processes like examinations.

  • Importance of Experienced Officers: The court clearly stated that to ensure the successful and secure conduct of exams, frequent transfers of experienced officers should be avoided. Frequent changes of officers adversely affect security arrangements and administrative coordination.
  • Understanding of New Technology: The Supreme Court suggested that new and energetic officers who well understand modern technology (New Technology) should be inducted into the examination system. In today's time, when the threats of hacking and digital breaches have increased, the role of technologically competent officers becomes extremely crucial.

Directive to Build a Robust Exam System Like UPSC

During the hearing, the Supreme Court gave a major directive to the National Testing Agency (NTA). The court said that the NTA should develop a highly robust, reliable, and transparent examination system like the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Key Takeaway: The Supreme Court believes that to keep the examination system secure, merely having strict rules is not enough; the stability of technologically competent and experienced officers is equally essential.

UPSC is known for conducting some of the country's most prestigious and secure exams, such as the Civil Services Examination in India. The court believes that if the NTA also adheres to the same level of security and confidentiality, students' trust in the examination system will be further strengthened. To maintain the sanctity of the exam, it is essential that strict rules and protocols are implemented at every level.

Central Government's Claim: 10-Tier Security System of NEET Exam

The Central Government assured the Supreme Court that the entire process, from preparing the NEET exam paper to delivering it into the hands of the students, is kept highly confidential. The 10 key security points presented by the government are as follows:

1. No One Knows the Final Paper

Several Subject Experts collaborate to prepare a large Question Bank. These are selected at different levels. The level of confidentiality in this entire process is so high that until the very last moment, no one knows which questions will be included in the main exam paper.

2. Massive Question Bank

A detailed question bank of a total of 500 questions is prepared for the exam. Keeping in mind the convenience of the students and the linguistic diversity of the country, this question bank is prepared in 13 different languages.

3. Sealed Covers and Two Printing Presses

The prepared question papers are sent in completely sealed covers to two different designated printing presses. These presses have tight security arrangements, where round-the-clock surveillance is maintained by CCTV cameras and CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel.

4. Digital Key and Code Security

Special boxes are used to keep the question papers secure during transit. The person transporting these boxes only has a digital key. However, even if they wanted to, they cannot open the box because they do not possess the main 'code' to unlock it. This code is provided only to the authorized officer just before the exam.

5. Strong Iron Boxes

Extremely strong Iron Boxes are used to keep the question papers secure. The design of these boxes is such that it is completely impossible to open them without breaking or damaging them.

6. Different Question Sequence and Watermark Security

Each packet contains 24 papers. To prevent cheating or any kind of malpractice, the sequence of questions is kept different across these 24 papers. Additionally, a unique watermark number, city name, exam center, and packet number are clearly printed on each packet.

7. Two Sets Secured in Bank Strong Rooms

To eliminate any possibility of paper leaks, two different sets of question papers are prepared. These are kept in the secure Strong Rooms of different banks. The entire process is videographed, and the respective responsible officers sign off on it.

8. GPS-Equipped Vehicles (GPS Tracking)

The vehicles carrying the question papers from the bank's strong room to the exam center are equipped with GPS systems. Every minor movement of the vehicle and its route is tracked live and recorded from the control room.

9. Opening of Boxes with Videography Just Before the Exam

The sealed iron boxes are opened just a few hours before the exam begins. Live videography of this entire box-opening process is mandatory to maintain transparency.

10. Separate Packets for Each Room

Complete security is maintained even within the exam center. Separate sealed packets are sent for candidates in each room of the exam hall, ensuring that the level of security is maintained until the very last moment.

Demand for Reforms in NEET-UG and the Way Forward for Students

Following the recently exposed irregularities in the NEET-UG exam, there was an atmosphere of concern among students and parents across the country. Consequently, several petitions were filed in the Supreme Court seeking major reforms in the functioning of the NTA and the examination system. The court is seriously considering these petitions to ensure that no deserving student faces injustice in the future.

For a medical aspirant, preparing for the exam is a major challenge in itself. In such a scenario, a secure examination system reduces their mental stress. Instead of worrying about exam security, students should focus on their studies. You can strengthen your preparation through the right strategy, authentic study material, and mock tests.

In this regard, Patamde Study (patamde.com) can prove to be an excellent guide for you. On Patamde Study, you will find the latest exam updates, study guides, and excellent preparation strategies that will lead you on the path to success.

Conclusion

The security measures presented by the Central Government in the Supreme Court show that strict steps have been taken at the administrative level to make the NEET exam system secure and transparent. However, suggestions from the Supreme Court, such as avoiding frequent transfers of experienced officers and involving technologically competent officials, will make this system even stronger. It is hoped that in the coming times, NTA will implement these reforms to build an impenetrable examination system like UPSC, ensuring that the trust of our students—the future of the country—in this system remains intact forever.
