Amid the ongoing controversies and court decisions regarding the Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment-2021 in Rajasthan, a major piece of relief news has emerged for the affected candidates. Following the cancellation of this recruitment due to paper leaks and various irregularities, the state government has taken steps to provide relief to those candidates who were already in government service. Specifically, the Education Department has decided to reinstate 38 of its personnel who had left their old jobs to become SIs.
This decision has come as a ray of hope for hundreds of youth who were caught in a "double whammy" after the recruitment was cancelled. They lost their new SI jobs and also ended up losing their old government jobs. In this article, we will discuss in detail this entire case, the Education Department's decision, the technicalities of the rules, as well as important information related to the interviews for RPSC SI Recruitment 2025.
The Sub-Inspector recruitment exam 2021, conducted by RPSC, was mired in controversy from the very beginning. Serious allegations of paper leaks, dummy candidates, and cheating using Bluetooth devices were made in this recruitment exam, which was released for a total of 859 posts in the year 2021. The matter reached the court after the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police found large-scale irregularities during its investigation.
After a long legal battle, a single bench of the Rajasthan High Court delivered a historic judgment cancelling the entire examination, which was later upheld by the division bench. The court clearly believed that when the entire selection process is tainted, it becomes impossible to distinguish between honest and dishonest candidates. Following this decision, the 859 candidates who were undergoing training or had already joined the service faced the crisis of losing their jobs. Among these, many candidates were already working in other government departments.
Lalit Kumar, Director of the Rajasthan Secondary Education Directorate, has issued orders for those 38 personnel of the Education Department involved in the SI Recruitment-2021 who hold a Lien (ग्रहणाधिकार) on their previous posts. Under this government decision, these employees will be given re-joining on their old posts.
The department has clarified that if these employees apply to return to their old posts, they will be given immediate appointment. This step is a huge relief for families that have been going through mental and financial stress for the past several months.
Among these 38 employees returning to the Education Department are people from various cadres such as Junior Assistants, Lab Assistants, and Teachers. According to the data released by the department, the details of these posts can be seen in the table below:
| Post Name | Number of Reinstated Personnel |
|---|---|
| Junior Assistant | 16 |
| Grade III Teacher | 10 |
| Lab Assistant | 09 |
| Senior Teacher | 01 |
| PTI | 01 |
| Training Instructor | 01 |
| Total Reinstated Posts | 38 |
In this entire matter, a major question also arises as to when the remaining employees posted in other departments of the state service will get relief. In fact, a total of 369 employees in the SI Recruitment-2021 were already working in some department of the state government.
Out of these 369 employees, a total of 161 employees (including 38 from the Education Department) had completed their probation period. These employees are technically safe and are returning to their old posts. However, the real complication lies with those 208 employees whose probation period was not completed before their selection in the SI recruitment.
Key Point: According to Vipin Prakash Sharma, General Secretary of the All Rajasthan State Government Employees Federation (Unified), the government should adopt a humanitarian approach in the case of the 208 employees whose probation period was not completed, provide them relief, and take them back into their old jobs as well.
Clear provisions have been made in the Rajasthan Service Rules (RSR) to protect the rights of employees when moving from one government job to another:

Amid this major relief, another big update related to the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) is emerging. According to information received from the Ajmer headquarters, the interviews for the Sub-Inspector/Platoon Commander (SI/Platoon Commander) Recruitment-2025 are going to start from Monday.
The key facts related to this interview process are as follows:
Since the commission also has to conduct interviews for several other important examinations apart from this recruitment, candidates are skeptical about how this entire process will be completed on time.
The cancellation of the SI Recruitment-2021 in Rajasthan and the subsequent struggle of the selected candidates for their old jobs shows how crucial transparency and clarity of rules are in competitive examinations. The Education Department's decision to reinstate 38 personnel is certainly commendable, but the government should also take a quick decision on the future of those 208 personnel whose cases are stuck due to incomplete probation.
On the other hand, candidates going to appear for the SI Recruitment-2025 interviews should focus on their preparation without any mental stress.
