A highly important update has emerged regarding the Common Eligibility Test, i.e., CET 2026 (Graduate Level), to be conducted by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSMSSB). If you are preparing for a government job in Rajasthan and primarily wish to join the canal or revenue department, this news is crucial for you. Under the recently released Advertisement No. 09/2026, major administrative and structural changes have been made in the Water Resources Department and the Engineering Irrigation Service Department. In this article, we will discuss the complete truth behind these changes, the actual math of the posts, and upcoming recruitment plans in detail.
A major change has been observed in the latest notification released by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board. Previously, both the posts of Ziledar and Patwari were included under the Engineering Irrigation Subordinate Service. However, according to the new advertisement of CET 2026, the post of Ziledar has now been removed from the Irrigation Department.
Now, only the post of Patwari has been retained under this department. With this decision, candidates who were preparing with the target of the Ziledar post will have to slightly modify their strategy. However, since recruitment for Patwari posts remains unchanged, candidates still have a wonderful opportunity to serve in the Water Resources Department. Following the removal of the Ziledar post, the entire focus has now shifted solely to the Patwari recruitment exam.
Certain misconceptions are being spread in various media reports and newspapers (such as Dainik Bhaskar) regarding the posts in the Engineering Irrigation Department. Reports are claiming the number of these posts to be only 200, which is not entirely correct. The actual situation is that the number of vacant posts in the Irrigation Department is 272.
These 272 posts are not recent; they have been sent by the department to the government for approval since the year 2024. Due to the delay by the government in starting the recruitment process for these posts, candidates have been waiting for a long time. In newspapers, this figure of 272 has been mistakenly presented as 200.
Important Fact: The actual number of vacant posts in the Engineering Irrigation Department is 272, not 200. The requisition for these posts has been prepared to be sent to the Board since 2024, but due to the lack of financial and technical approval at the administrative level, this recruitment is still pending.
Another major announcement has been made by the Rajasthan Government to strengthen the administrative structure of the state. The government has decided to approve the creation of more than 1,035 new Patwar circles (Patwar Mandals) in the state. Following this major announcement, preparations have intensified to address the severe shortage of Patwaris in both the Revenue and Canal departments.
As a result of this decision, candidates will get to see a major joint or independent notification for the Canal Department (Irrigation Department) and the Revenue Department in the year 2027. Currently, financial approval for this major recruitment is pending. As soon as financial approval is received from the government, its official requisition will be sent to the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSMSSB).
Therefore, this is a golden opportunity for candidates appearing in the CET 2026 exam, as their scorecard will be extremely useful for this bumper recruitment coming in the year 2027.
According to Advertisement No. 09/2026, important services and posts of various departments have been included under the Rajasthan Common Eligibility Test (Graduate Level)-2026. In the table below, you can see which posts have been kept under the purview of CET 2026 this time:
| S.No. | Department / Service Name | Post Name |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rajasthan Home Guard Subordinate Service | Platoon Commander |
| 2 | Rajasthan Engineering Subordinate Irrigation Service | Patwari |
| 3 | Rajasthan Subordinate Accounts Service | Junior Accountant |
| 4 | Rajasthan Women Empowerment Subordinate Service | Supervisor (Women Empowerment) |
| 5 | Rajasthan Integrated Child Development Subordinate Service | Supervisor |
| 6 | Rajasthan Prison Subordinate Service | Deputy Jailor |
| 7 | Rajasthan Social Welfare Subordinate Service | Hostel Superintendent Grade-II |
| 8 | Rajasthan Revenue (Land Records, Land Management & Colonization) Subordinate Service | Patwari |
| 9 | Rajasthan Panchayati Raj | Village Development Officer (VDO) |
| 10 | Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board (Service) | Junior Accountant |
| 11 | Rajasthan Tribal Area Development State & Subordinate Service | Hostel Superintendent (Male/Female) Grade-II |
It is clear from this table that this time, the Patwari posts of both the Revenue Department and the Irrigation Department will be filled under the graduate-level CET 2026 exam. Therefore, it will be mandatory for candidates to clear this eligibility exam with good marks to appear in the Patwari recruitment of both departments.
If you want to secure a seat in the upcoming Patwari and other equivalent recruitments, you must score as high as possible in CET 2026. For this, you can adopt the following strategies:
In short, the removal of the Ziledar post and retaining only the Patwari post in the Irrigation Department under CET 2026 is a significant administrative change. Along with this, the actual information of 272 vacant posts instead of 200, and the major recruitment exam coming after the creation of more than 1,035 new Patwar circles in the year 2027, will bring a new dawn for the candidates.
Now is the time to focus on your studies without falling into any kind of confusion.
