Jio-Airtel-Vi: Whose Network is Strongest in Your Area? Find Out Instantly with TRAI's New Portal

Jio-Airtel-Vi: Whose Network is Strongest in Your Area? Find Out Instantly with TRAI's New Portal

Does it happen to you too that you get an expensive 5G recharge, but as soon as you step inside your house, your phone only shows a 2G or 4G network? Or does your internet suddenly stop working while taking an online class or a mock test? Major telecom companies in India like Jio, Airtel, and Vi (Vodafone-Idea) claim nationwide network coverage, but the reality is only known in your local area (locality).

To solve this problem, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken a revolutionary step. TRAI has launched a new online portal named 'Network Anubhav' (Network Anubhav Platform). With the help of this portal, you can check from the comfort of your home, based on your PIN code or location, which company's network is the strongest in your area and who offers the best internet speed.

1. What is TRAI's New 'Network Anubhav' Platform?

The Network Anubhav Platform (anubhav.trai.gov.in) launched by TRAI is a geospatial and analytical dashboard. This platform displays the real-time status of the networks of all telecom operators in India—Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL—on an interactive map.

The data displayed on this platform is completely reliable because it comes from two main sources:

  • Crowdsourced User Data (Crowdsourced Data): This data is collected through TRAI's official apps MySpeed and MyCall, where real consumers rate their network speed and call quality.
  • Independent Drive Tests (IDT): TRAI periodically conducts drive tests in various cities to check network quality firsthand, and this data is also made available on this portal.

Key Point: The purpose of this portal is to show consumers the truth of the network coverage at their actual location, moving beyond the advertisements and claims of telecom companies.

2. Whose Network is Strongest in Your Area? How to Check

If you want to check the quality of the Jio-Airtel-Vi network at your home, office, or study place, you can follow the simple steps given below:

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Visit the Website: First, open TRAI's official portal anubhav.trai.gov.in in your mobile or computer browser.
  2. Search Location: Enter your PIN code, city, or specific address in the search box provided on the homepage. If you prefer, you can also select your current location directly by granting GPS location permission to your device.
  3. Select Network and Technology: You can choose between fixed broadband or cellular network. After this, you can filter by 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G technology and your preferred operator (such as Jio, Airtel, or Vi).
  4. Analyze Map and Data: You will see colored legends and dots on the map, representing network strength and speed. Here, you can view download speed, upload speed, and call drop status.

3. Key Features of the 'Network Anubhav' Platform

This new portal by TRAI is not limited to just showing internet speed, but has also integrated several other important features for the convenience of consumers:

  • Call Quality and Rating: On this portal, you can see which operator has the best call quality in your area and where the most call drops occur.
  • Internet Speed Benchmark: The portal uses scientific benchmarks like P50 (median speed), P80 (for mobile broadband), and P90 (for fixed broadband) to measure speed.
  • DND (Do Not Disturb) Web Interface: Until now, the DND facility was limited only to mobile apps, but now you can register complaints against unsolicited spam calls and messages and set your preferences directly through this portal.
  • Opportunity for Companies to Improve: Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have been given a secure login interface where they can identify poor network areas and improve their infrastructure (towers).

4. 'Network Anubhav' vs. Standard Speed Test Apps

Many people might wonder why this government portal is needed when speed test apps already exist in the market. You can understand the major differences between the two from the table below:

Feature / FunctionTRAI Network AnubhavStandard Speed Test Apps (e.g., Ookla, Fast)
Primary Data SourceMySpeed, MyCall apps and government drive testsOnly individual tests conducted by users
Call Quality TrackingYes, information on call drops and voice quality is availableNo, only data speed is checked
DND and Spam ComplaintYes, reporting spam calls/SMS directly from the web portal is possibleNo
Network Type2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, and fixed broadbandOnly the currently active network
Data ReliabilityHighly reliable (mix of government and crowdsourced data)Limited (often dependent on ads and servers)

5. How to Check 5G Coverage Using Official Tools of Jio, Airtel, and Vi?

Apart from TRAI's portal, if you personally want to check the 5G network coverage of a specific operator, all major companies have also made official Coverage Maps available on their websites:

Jio 5G Coverage:

  • Go to Jio's official website and navigate to the 'True 5G' section.
  • Click on 'Check 5G Coverage' here and select your PIN code or state.
  • On the map, purple color represents 4G and yellow color represents 5G coverage.

Airtel 5G Coverage:

  • Open the 'Airtel 5G Plus' coverage map on Airtel's website.
  • Enter your city or PIN code.
  • The green area on the map displays Airtel's strong 5G network.

Vi 5G Coverage:

  • Go to the official 5G page of Vi (Vodafone-Idea).
  • By selecting your telecom circle and smartphone model, you can check whether Vi's 5G is live in your area.

6. Should You Port Your SIM?

If you study online, prepare for competitive exams, or work from home, a stable and fast internet connection is essential for you. Frequent buffering or call drops affect your studies and concentration.

Before getting a new SIM or porting your number, make sure to check the network status of your home and study room on the TRAI Network Anubhav Platform. If your current operator's signal appears weak in your area (i.e., red or yellow on the map), you should switch to the operator whose network appears strongest and green in your area.

Conclusion

TRAI's 'Network Anubhav' platform is an excellent and transparent tool for Indian mobile consumers. Now you no longer need to rely on the false advertisements of any telecom company. Before porting your SIM or getting a new connection, visit this government portal and check the reality of the network in your area yourself.

Tip for Competitive Exam Preparation: Along with an excellent internet connection, proper guidance and study material are equally important for exam success. To give your preparation a new direction, use Patamde mock tests and study material, where you will find the best mock tests, e-books, and comprehensive study guides for various government and competitive exams.
