RRB Group D Recruitment 2026-27: Notification for 30,000 Vacancies to Be Released Soon

A wonderful and major piece of good news is emerging for millions of youth across the country dreaming of securing a government job in the Railways. The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is soon going to start a bumper recruitment process for approximately 30,000 posts under the RRB Group D Recruitment. Preparations in this regard have been significantly fast-tracked at the board level. According to media reports and reliable sources, there is a strong possibility that the short notice for this recruitment will be released before Chhath Puja, and the detailed advertisement will be issued in December 2026.

Major recruitment boards like RRB Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Ranchi have sent the details of vacant positions (vacancies) from their end to the headquarters. The news of the commencement of this massive recruitment process has sent a wave of excitement among competitive exam aspirants across the country, including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

RRB Group D Recruitment 2026-27: At a Glance

Group D posts in Indian Railways are viewed as the largest manpower segment. This time, the Railway Recruitment Board is preparing to fill approximately 30,000 vacancies. According to official railway sources, large-scale appointments will be made under this recruitment for various technical and non-technical posts, including Track Maintainer and Pointsman.

For this recruitment drive, complete details of vacant posts were requested from all zonal railways and production units across the country. Most zones have submitted their vacancy lists to the board, after which the final process of issuing the notification is currently underway.

Important Dates and Tentative Schedule

The Railway Board is trying to keep its annual recruitment calendar perfectly on track this time. Officials believe that if this recruitment process begins before December 2026, the advertisement for the upcoming Group D Recruitment 2027 can also be released on schedule. This will prevent any confusion among the candidates.

In the table below, you can view the tentative schedule associated with this recruitment:

Zonal Railways Update and Vacancy Details

According to information received from RRB Patna officials, the Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Ranchi Railway Recruitment Boards have prepared the complete data of vacant posts falling under their respective jurisdictions and sent it to the central board.

Appointments will be mainly made to the following posts in this recruitment:

  • Track Maintainer: The main task of maintaining and ensuring the safety of railway tracks.
  • Pointsman: Ensuring smooth operation of trains and carrying out shunting processes.
  • Other Technical and Non-Technical Posts: Assistant-level posts in various departments.

After compiling the data received from all zones, the Railway Board will very soon upload the detailed notification on its official website.

Educational Qualification: A Golden Opportunity for Students from Rural Backgrounds

Experts believe that this recruitment is going to prove to be a major boon, especially for students coming from rural areas. The educational qualification required for this exam has been set as 10th Pass and ITI.

Key Point: Since most students from rural areas pursue ITI courses to acquire technical skills after completing matriculation (10th), it becomes very easy for them to appear and succeed in this exam. The mandatory requirement of ITI also balances the level of general competition to some extent, directly benefiting qualified and technically skilled rural students.

Craze and Statistics of the Exam in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh

A unique craze for railway jobs is seen among the youth of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Due to the high unemployment rate in Bihar and immense interest in central government jobs, the youth here actively participate in preparing for Railway, SSC, and banking exams.

  • Record Applications from Bihar: According to statistics, approximately 12 to 15 lakh youth apply for the Railway Group D exam from Bihar state alone, which is the highest from any single state in the country.
  • Uttar Pradesh in Second Place: After Bihar, the highest number of applications for this exam come from Uttar Pradesh (UP).
  • Enthusiastic Atmosphere in Coaching Hubs: In major coaching hubs of Patna like Bhikhna Pahari, Musallahpur Hat, Kankarbagh, and Rajendra Nagar, thousands of students are already preparing day and night for railway recruitment. Upon hearing the news of this new notification, a wave of immense enthusiasm and a positive atmosphere is being observed among students in these coaching areas.

Railway Group D Selection Process

To secure final selection for the posts in the RRB Group D Recruitment, candidates have to go through a multi-stage selection process. This process is completely transparent and merit-based:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): This is the very first and most crucial stage of the selection process. Objective-type multiple-choice questions are asked in this exam. The exam mainly features questions from General Science, Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, and General Awareness/Current Affairs.
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Candidates who clear the CBT are called for a physical endurance test. In this, male candidates have to carry a specific weight (usually 35 kg) for a set distance and complete a run within a specified time. Similar but slightly less stringent criteria are set for female candidates.
  3. Document Verification: The academic and technical (ITI) documents of the candidates who clear the PET are verified.
  4. Medical Examination: To be finally selected, candidates must meet the strict medical standards of the Railways, with vision tests being the most critical.

Official Advice: Beware of Rumors

The Railway Recruitment Board has issued an important advisory to all candidates. The board has stated that candidates should rely solely on official websites. Avoid misleading news and rumors circulating on social media or any other unauthorized sources.

To view any authentic information, short notice, or detailed notification related to the recruitment, candidates should only visit the official website of the Railway Recruitment Board http://rrbcdg.gov.in or the official websites of the respective zonal RRBs (such as RRB Patna, RRB Muzaffarpur, RRB Ranchi).

How to Prepare for the Exam and Keys to Success
