An important update has emerged from the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) for lakhs of candidates preparing for the RPSC RAS Pre-2026 exam. The Commission has made a major change in the dates of the Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) recruitment exam. Now, this preliminary exam will be conducted on December 6, 2026. Previously, the Commission was preparing to conduct this exam on November 29, 2026, but the decision to postpone the exam date was taken due to administrative reasons and to strengthen the arrangements.
Following this change, the Rajasthan Public Service Commission has intensified its preparations for the successful and fair conduct of the exam. According to official sources of the Commission, along with the change in the exam date, the process of determining the exam centers has also begun. This time, candidates have received additional time for preparation, allowing them to make their strategy even stronger.
Under the RAS Recruitment-2026, eligible candidates will be selected for a total of 607 posts. These posts are mainly divided into two categories: State Services and Subordinate Services. The details of the posts are as follows:
Important Information: The official advertisement for this recruitment issued by RPSC was released on May 27, 2026, and the last date for online application was set as July 3, 2026. Following the completion of the application process, all candidates are now eagerly waiting for the preliminary exam date.
The RPSC RAS Pre-2026 exam is proposed to be organized in more than 35 districts of Rajasthan. Due to such a large number of candidates participating, keeping security and arrangements robust is a major challenge for the Commission.
To finalize the preparations, the Commission has sent letters to the District Collectors of all 35 districts of the state, including Ajmer. Through this letter, the Commission has requested the Collectors to provide full details of the available exam centers and their numbers in their respective districts.
The most unique aspect of this year's RAS recruitment exam is that candidates have received a record amount of time for preparation after the last date of application. In RAS-2026, there is a total gap of 156 days between the last date of application (July 3, 2026) and the exam date (December 6, 2026). Compared to the last three recruitments, this is the longest gap so far.
The table below provides a comparative detail of the gap between the advertisement, application, and exam of previous RAS recruitments:
| Exam Name | Date of Advertisement Release | Last Date of Application | Date of Exam | Gap Between Last Date and Exam (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RAS-2021 | July 20, 2021 | September 2, 2021 | October 27, 2021 | 55 days |
| RAS-2023 | June 28, 2023 | July 31, 2023 | October 1, 2023 | 62 days |
| RAS-2024 | September 2, 2024 | October 18, 2024 | February 2, 2025 | 107 days |
| RAS-2026 | May 27, 2026 | July 3, 2026 | December 6, 2026 | 156 days |
It is clear from this table that while candidates got only 55 days in RAS-2021, this time candidates have received valuable time of more than five months (156 days). This extra time can prove to be a boon for serious candidates who want to improve their weak subjects.
This year, more than 5 lakh candidates are expected to appear in the RAS Pre-2026 exam. Such a large number of applicants for a total of 607 posts indicates that the level of competition is going to be extremely tough this time.
Now that only a short time is left for the exam, candidates need to give a new direction to their preparation. Instead of reading new things at this time, they should focus on the following strategies:
Questions related to the history, art, culture, geography, economy, and polity of Rajasthan dominate the RAS exam. Therefore, memorize the government schemes, budget, and Economic Review of Rajasthan thoroughly.
Prepare national, international, and especially Rajasthan state-related current affairs of the past year. Questions related to sports, awards, new appointments, and government policies are frequently asked in the exam.
There is negative marking in the preliminary exam. Therefore, maintaining accuracy while solving questions is extremely important. Solve as many mock tests as possible to get an idea of how many questions to solve within the stipulated time and which questions to skip.
Analyze RPSC's previous 5 to 10 years' question papers. This will help you understand the level of questions and the pattern of asking them.
The date of December 6, 2026, has been proposed for the RPSC RAS Pre-2026 exam. More than 5 lakh candidates will try their luck in this exam being held for 607 posts. This exam is a test not only of your intelligence but also of your patience and time management. This long gap of 156 days is an excellent opportunity for you to overcome your shortcomings and ensure success.
